BlackRock

BlackRock’s iRetire to integrate with eMoney Advisor.

Staying in their lanes, BlackRock gets access to more advisors and eMoney streamlines its partnership with the asset manager.

Financial planning platform eMoney Advisor will have a new integration partner with BlackRock’s iRetire platform, starting tomorrow, the two companies confirmed. Users of eMoney will be able to access iRetire via a single sign-in on the financial planning platform’s Application page.

Guideline

Guideline lands additional $35 million in funding.

California-based 401(k) startup, Guideline, announced Wednesday that it has raised a $35 million Series C, led by Tiger Global Management. The almost-3-year-old technology startup’s existing investment partners also contributed to the round, which includes Felicis Ventures and Propel Ventures. This brings the company’s total financing to $59 million.

Plaid

Fintech startup Plaid raises $250M at a $2.65B valuation.

Plaid has emerged as one of the most critical contributors to financial technology’s evolution — and one of the most under the radar. The company announced a $250 million Series C investment led by famed venture capitalist and the author of the Internet Trends report Mary Meeker, who would join its board of directors as part of the deal. The funds were raised at a valuation of $2.65 billion, according to sources close to the company.

Plaid builds infrastructure that allows a consumer to interact with their bank account on the web through a number of third-party applications, like Venmo, Robinhood, Coinbase, Acorns and LendingClub.

Vanguard

Global investment giant Vanguard Group is set to launch a Canadian robo-adviser service within the next 18 months in a move that will bring a formidable new competitor to the increasingly crowded field of digital portfolio management.

Vanguard Investments Canada Inc., the third largest provider of exchange-traded funds in the country by assets, will introduce a digital online advice platform for retail investors, according to three sources with knowledge of the plans.

BNY Mellon’s Albridge, an affiliate of Pershing and a leading provider of enterprise data management solutions, announced that it has been selected by Independent Financial Partners (IFP), a multi-custodial RIA and soon-to-be broker-dealer that specializes in wealth management and retirement plan consulting, to provide wealth reporting to its approximately 500 advisors nationwide.

Investcloud

A survey conducted by InvestCloud Inc., a global FinTech firm, has found that the investment management industry is drastically under-prepared to cater to the digital needs of the next generation of investors – not only in the US, but also in the UK.

Key findings from the survey reveal that:

  • The vast majority of wealth managers (68%) know they need to improve their digital technology to survive;
  • Nearly half of investors right now (49%) use mobile apps to manage their investments, and this is only going to increase, and yet wealth managers are by and large very behind on mobile offerings; and
  • Investors are now using the digital proposition as one of the key determining factors in selecting a wealth manager (48%).
