Youzu is a Berlin-based AI company that turns messy retailer product catalogues into rich, structured, shoppable data, then powers visual search, recommendations, and room visualisation through an API integration.

The Story

E-commerce still runs on messy product data and a stack of disconnected tools. A retailer’s catalogue is full of half-filled records – no real attributes, weak descriptions and that broken foundation quietly breaks search, filters, recommendations, and SEO downstream. On top of that, most retailers buy discovery, recommendations, visualisation, and product content from separate vendors that don’t talk to each other.

Youzu solves that with one layer. It reads every product image and record and turns it into rich, structured, shoppable data, then powers visual search, recommendations, room visualisation, 3D  all through a single API. The capabilities themselves aren’t new; Amazon, Google, and Pinterest built them in-house years ago and kept them proprietary. What’s different is that Youzu makes the whole layer available to any retailer through one integration. Like Stripe, but for visual commerce.

Philosophy Powering Youzu

Proof over narrative. Every decision at Youzu starts with the same question: what is the fastest way to turn this into something a customer can verify? In product, that means building whatever is blocking the next deployment, nothing speculative. In growth, it means landing on the single surface that pays back fastest, then expanding from there. In hiring, it means bringing on people who have shipped real AI to production before. Most of the Youzu team built and ran the world’s first AI broadcasting camera together at Sporttotal — because production, as they put it, is a different sport from a demo.

“The people selling and the people building should be the same conversation not two departments throwing requests over a wall. It keeps us honest, and it’s the fastest path to product-market fit.”

Key Milestones in the Last 12 Months

  • 0 to 3 enterprise customers live and paying across three countries
  • Each customer reached ROI within the first month of deployment
  • Seed round in progress targeting $1.5M; $350K committed from Caucasus VC and angels
  • One of the investors and advisors is Benjamin Mayr who sold his company, Cognigy, for $1 billion.

One Thing to Steal

Close the loop between sales and product. Youzu’s founder still runs every sales call personally, and every objection or feature gap from those calls becomes a product decision within the week. There is no roadmap built in a vacuum; the roadmap is whatever a paying customer is waiting for next. The companies that find product-market fit fastest are usually the ones where selling and building are the same conversation.
